
For the first time ever in the Dominican Republic, 3 manatees of the endangered subspecies Trichechus manatus manatus were reintroduced into the wild after 3 to 8 years of captivity. Although they adapted well to living in the wild again, longterm success (or failure) of the project highly depends on the river and seaside communities.
